Mixed martial arts can look intimidating from the outside. In reality, a good MMA program is structured, progressive and welcoming to beginners. Here is what your first month typically looks like.
Week 1: Stance, movement and the basics
You will learn how to stand, move and keep your balance. Expect simple drills: a handful of basic strikes, footwork patterns and defensive habits. Nobody expects you to know anything yet.
Week 2: Building combinations
Basic strikes become short combinations. You will also be introduced to the clinch and your first takedown concepts, always with a cooperative partner.
Week 3: Ground fundamentals
MMA fights often end up on the ground, so you will start learning how to control position and escape bad ones. This is where jiu-jitsu principles come in.
Week 4: Putting it together
You will link striking, takedowns and ground control in light, controlled drills. By now you will notice better fitness, sharper coordination and a lot more confidence.
Do I have to fight?
No. Most students train for fitness, skill and confidence. Competition is a choice, not a requirement.
What to bring
Comfortable athletic clothing, water and a good attitude. Your coach will guide you on anything else.
